No matter what industry you’re in, running your own business is incredibly rewarding. It takes dedication, hard work and stress but if it’s done right, the rewards are endless. This is especially true for metal railing shop owners, like us here at Rod and Forge servicing the greater Denver area. We specialize in custom railings, but for the past 10 years, if it was metal I would make it. But owning a high quality metal shop can been done in many different ways: including design to delivery everything can be done in-shop, like I do, so I can guarantee the highest quality of workmanship. But you also could out source so things like hiring a local powder-coater. Now I only take on a variety of large and small commercial and residential railing jobs in the greater Denver areas, so no railing is too big or too small for me. But specializing in only commercial or residential or only large or small jobs is totally doable and worth it too. The satisfaction of completing a custom metal fabrication project is incomparable especially when you are the shop owner. Seeing the look on your clients’ faces when they see their finished product is an incredible reward. Your clients trust you to create solutions that fit their unique needs and make sure they receive something that exceeds their expectations. Working closely with each client, you become partners in the process to bring their vision to life. For anyone wanting to start their own metal shop, be warned it is a lot of work and dedication! It took me years of hard work and building connections with suppliers as well as other metal shops to get where I am today. But when you’re passionate about what you do, it’s worth the effort!

Client relationships with your metal fab shop is an important part of your business. It’s where you create the products that define your brand, from railings to custom furniture and more. While most shops focus on great production and craftsmanship, it’s essential to remember that relationships are key for any successful metal fab shop. Here at Rod and Forge, we specialize in metal railings for the greater Denver area but did just about anything metal for over a decade. Here are some tips that I have learned: Building a strong relationship with your clients can help you increase sales, find new clients and get repeat business. Here are some tips to enhance your metal fab shop and build better relationships with your current clients. Create an inviting atmosphere in your shop – Show off the best of what your shop has to offer by creating an inviting atmosphere. Make sure your shop is always clean, organized and has the best equipment available to get the job done. Offer creative solutions – Your clients may come in looking for something specific but be willing to try something different if you can provide a unique solution or alternative they hadn’t considered before. Show off your creativity by offering up something new and exciting. Keep communication open – It’s important for clients to feel like their questions are being heard and answered in a timely manner. Make sure you have an easy way for clients to contact you, either via email or phone, and always be available to listen and offer solutions when needed. Respect your client's budget – Some clients may be on a tight budget, and that’s okay. You can still offer them the best products at an affordable price without sacrificing quality or craftsmanship. But on rare occasions that you cannot do it within their budget, make recommendations on how they can have it done even if you need to recommend another metal fab shop just like we recommend so railing contractors in Boulder. But do not, I repeat DO NOT put yourself in a bind just to do a job, I have done this many times and it is not good for anyone. 5. Prioritize customer satisfaction – Your metal fab shop should always strive to put your clients first. Make sure each project is completed quickly and efficiently, and always take the time to listen to your client's needs and feedback. By focusing on building a strong relationship with your clients, you can create a successful metal fab shop that will be appreciated for years to come. Metal work and design is booming everywhere especially here in Denver, so take advantage of it! With the right team and commitment to customer service, you can ensure your success in the metal fabrication business.
